The Hallelujah Chorus

The "Hallelujah Chorus" is a rousing tribute of praise that is unexcelled in our music.  Handel sketched and scored the entire composition in an incredible 21 days.    And when the oratorio was performed for the first time before the king, as he heard those mighty hallelujahs...he was so moved he stood to his feet, meaning the entire crowd of people had to follow suit.    Someone has suggested that the king was on his way to the bathroom.  If so, it must have surprised him to see the entire audience ready to join him.  Well...whatever, contemporary audiences still rise when that magnificent chorus is reached.  At times arms are even raised because Hallelujah is a Hebrew word meaning PRAISE THE LORD!
