Gingerbread

I got this from Ruthie today....THANKS, RUTHIE!!! It sounds YUMMY!
**********

This makes a gingerbread 'cake', and goes NICELY with a sourcream
frosting, like what you would put on a carrot cake. I found it on
www.foodtv.com .

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup hot tap water
2 eggs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 inch square baking pan.
In a bowl stir together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon,
nutmeg, allspice and pepper. In a large bowl mix together the melted
butter and molasses. Stir in the water until well mixed. Add the eggs and
mix to combine. Add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Pour
into greased baking pan and bake for 30 - 40 minutes or until a toothpick
inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream, ice
cream, applesauce, or sour cream frosting! Also nice is topping it with a
custard sauce.
