AHHH...TO BE A KID AGAIN!!!
BACK TO A TIME WHEN...

(AND AS ALWAYS, CATHYE'S COMMENTS ARE IN ()  )

decisions were made by saying "eeny-meeny-miney-mo"
(or one-potato, two-potato)
***
mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!"
***
"race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest
***
money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly"
***
catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening
(and monopoly could occupy days on end)
***
it wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends
***
being old referred to anyone over 20
***
the worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties
***
it was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb
(or find a quarter behind his ear)
***
it was unbelievable that dodge ball wasn't an Olympic event
(don't forget 4 square)
***
having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot
(or a straw to shoot spit wads)
***
nobody was prettier than Mom
(but Sandra Dee was quite a "looker"...and Fabian was "to die for")
***
scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better
***
it was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at the amusement park
***
getting a foot of snow was a dream come true
***
abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog-dare"
***
Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30-minute ads for action figures
***
no shopping trip was complete unless a new toy was brought home
***
"oly-oly-oxen-free" made perfect sense
***
spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles
***
the worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team
(or forgetting the dance during a talent show in third grade)
***
War was a card game
***
water balloons were the ultimate weapon
***
baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle
(VvvRrrOoooooMmmmm...VvvRrrOoooooMmmmm)
***
taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin
***
ice cream was considered a basic food group
***
older siblings were the worst tormentors but also the fiercest protectors
***
(the world could be fixed with a skate key)
***
(walking around the block at 11:00 at night was safe - and a daring adventure)
***
(horned toads were everywhere)
***
(your car had air conditioning...which meant it got air if the conditions were right)
***
(you became beautiful by putting on blue mascara)
***
(you could giggle all night and still function the next day)
***
(summertime meant vacation and freedom)
***
(lunches could be eaten at the soda fountain while reading a comic book off the rack)

Ahhh...such fond memories.  I hope they conjured up mental images of days gone by...simpler times that brought a smile to your face.
